First Time in DR

Taken by Mel in 2015.

What is “DR?” It is the Dominican Republic! I hold this memory as one of my most fondest. In 2015, I spent my 16th birthday in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I shared this vacation with my family, my best friend, and two other families I have grown up with. With 13 friends and family, I spent my birthday week surrounded by an amazing group of people and beautiful weather.

What is there to do in the Dominican Republic you ask? Tan. Lots of tanning. Oh, and if you are staying at an all-inclusive hotel, it is food extravaganza. For this trip, we stayed at the “Hotel Riu Bambu.” My family and I favor certain hotel chains, and Riu hotels is one of our favorites. All inclusive hotels are an experience worth trying if you never have- some love them, others prefer Hawaii (I am not judging.)

These are a few pictures from the trip that show some of the things we did in our 7-day stay. For my 16th birthday, we went dune-bugging on a long-muddy trail. It was an excursion where we drove dune bugs along the way to a coffee bean farm and even swam in a crystal clear underwater cave. At another point along the trip we even partook in some snorkeling even with my great fear of the ocean! I had many first-time experiences during this vacation and I will always remember the memories I had there. It was an unforgettable trip, worth sharing.

My First Blog Post

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore – July 2018

I go to seek a great perhaps.

— John Green.

Welcome to my blog! For those of you who are new, my name is Melanie but I prefer to be called “Mel.”

If you are an adventurer, you have come to the right place. Feel free to navigate through my site at your own personal freedom!

I know people come here for my ‘travel diary’ entries and my amazing travel tips for budget travelers so I will make my introduction short and sweet.

At only 20 years old, I have traveled to parts of the world some may never see and places you think only exist in movies. I have a deep connection to the world around me and find nature to be my spiritual guide. I do not enjoy working out, but I will hike a mountain for 4 hours just to see water fall (Get it? Waterfall). I am the oldest of three, first of my name, dog mom of Milo, and watcher of stars.

If you are my professor and have more questions regarding myself, please refer to the “about me” page for more information. Thanks!

As for my blog viewers and readers- thank you for spending the time to visit my personal diary, it truly is something I have always wanted to share with people and hope you feel the same way that I do when I explore this beautiful world.
